Tree of Life
I can only give a very personal and subjective view of this picture, which is not supposed to be offensive, but to show the real focus of purity and beauty in the masculine and feminine forms.
The figures are full and passionate, twisting and turning energetic. The bodies are like a vine, the tree a host to the mystical entwining of the members living within.
The picture makes the viewer move irresistibly through the bodies as they balance growth and unnatural poses. Unprotected, the bodies extend upwards, continually on the move, alive, sensitive to temptation. Is it a troubled picture? Perhaps, but it is up to the viewer to relate what they see to their own interpretation of life and the desperation that reaching for freedom apparently causes.
The picture as gentle colour tones in contrast to its strong depth; the figures have an unmistakeable presence with powerful movement without being oppressive.
