The Creation and Birth

With their heads tilted to one side, the parents show the love, care and concern that accompanies the birth. Their faces are softened by emotion, as they witness the helplessness infant, and the picture radiates sympathy and understanding.

The centrepiece of the "theme of birth" is the open pod, the children seen as the seeds growing and moving in various stages towards the unknown world which awaits them. The staircases on either side of the picture describe the mysterious paths which lie ahead and to be taken as they see fit. The older children are about to step out of the pod, appearing unsure and confused, delaying the final move in their uncertainty and no one can say what their path should be or their future may be.
