My name is Peter Thawley and I run the highly acclaimed Castle Studio.

I am a well established artist with a number of successful commissions to my name.  I am therefore pleased to be able to offer a bespoke ARTwork service both to the domestic and business sectors. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any requirements you may have.

My Studio

I believe that for my art work, working together with a client is absolutely crucial.

Bespoke art is personal and the finished work should reflect that exactly.

I will create, step by step, the innermost ideas of what the client enjoys into a visual language in order to find their identity. This is, in other words, ‘true bespoke art’.

Please enjoy the website and I hope the diverse nature of my work excites you and the potential it offers reflecting the art in the ‘true you’.

Initial pen sketch Finished Artwork

I have recently completed a significant commision of diverse work for a Law Group with six offices in the UK that wanted to use art work as a way of bringing the offices together as one group, but reflecting the characteristics of the cities that they were located in as individual practices.

There is a bridge between traditional correctness and creativity of the artists. My style extends from an architectural preciseness to a form of creative energy and mixture of diverse ability not all artists have.

I am an orthodox artist and do accept that my client’s have the right to express their views of artwork. I aim to stimulate the mood necessary for the particular surroundings to create art for discussion. The artwork that provides a focal point in a room, just as you would add a piece of fine jewellery to lift a plain dress to make it stylish.

Bespoke artwork is a choice of a client embellishing all their needs, helped by my sensitivity of the visionary ability also revitalising what is already there so it continues to reflect the ‘true you’.

I have a passion for detail and precise work. Artworks can take from anything from 5 weeks to 12 – obviously depending on the detail involved.

Having agreed a subject with the client, I will prepare ‘draft’ ideas and composition sketches. Discussions always continue – there must be an honesty in the working relationship between client and artist. With this participation so important a finished work can be completed with the knowledge it has been inspired between both people; so important is ‘participation’.

I see my artistic ability as a business venture within the interior design concept – it might only be a small part but so significant. It's easy to be creative but what is paramount is that the creativity is effective. I want to help produce the art work that gets results for you.

The best way, as always is to talk; so why not give me a call on 01275 394494, then you can do this face to face.

"Peter Thawley is an acclaimed artist, successful in corporate art, who wields his pen and brush as expertly as his ancestors wielded their swords".

I have an intriguing pedigree [see Burkes Peerage] being a descendant of the Goring family – the Earl of Norwich, Lord George Goring was Master of the Horse to Charles 1. George Goring was a true Royalist Cavalier of high rank to Charles 1 and fought his last battle against the Roundheads at Langport in Somerset.

The family tree goes back to the 15th Century. Sir William Goring also held the honoured position of Master of the Horse to Henry VIII. In the mid 16th Century the ancestral home, Goring House, was a fine Jacobean mansion on the site of Buckingham Palace within the Mulberry Gardens. During the 15th and 16th centuries the Goring family were extremely powerful.

So how did I miss the family title? Quite simply my grandfather was an eldest son who had only one daughter namely my mother. Therefore, under the rules of patrimony, titles may only pass on to sons. So in this case it was my uncle who inherited the title.

Nowadays my battles are far less bloody and more successful with pen and brush. I was born in Staffordshire attending a school where I won all accolades and prizes possible for art. I became a member of the Midland Society of Artists at the age of 16, quite an achievement in those days.

My biggest influences were my grandfather Craven Goring and my mother Beryl Thawley. My grandfather was a kind and gentle man, as the only grandson I spent many hours with him. My mother was very special, kind with a gentle sense of humour. It was mother who introduced me to the most influential art people, members of the Royal Academy who imparted their knowledge and guided my natural ability. They encouraged me to exhibit my work with them mainly in the Midlands Society.

Their encouragement of my style has developed in to a distinctive contemporary approach. My work is precise, quite dramatic and documentative and its acclaim has made my move into corporate work extremely desirable.

A pupil who saw my work for the first time declared “Peter’s work has a profound sensual feel with the depth of intensity of a gifted draughtsman. The quality can only be described as beautiful with tremendous visual impact”

I am a very private person, full of enthusiasm, but seemingly not known by the art fraternity. My low public profile belies my profound reputation amongst people who know me and my ability. The only time I show my work in public is when I hold a bi-annual Art Exhibition for my students where I also show some of my own work and limited edition prints. In aid of the Bristol based charity Jessie May Trust.

I established Castle Studio Distinguished Art Work, This is a working studio enabling me to combine my natural gift with being a tutor to others whilst focusing towards Corporate Art and bespoke private artwork. Today my commissions range from bespoke needs of the office environment which create talking points.

It is always difficult to explain a ‘passion’. My private work definitely comes from within, from inspiration of a mood or a time I am experiencing or feeling, and then I have to sketch these thoughts immediately.

When I work I focus my thoughts and create what my inner mind tells me. Overall composition becomes easy and inspires me to work all hours, giving a wonderful sense of satisfaction and freedom which is so fulfilling.

The enjoyment of putting a painting or picture together (artists don’t lie the work picture – but it is) that you can look into. The contemporary format makes people’s inner mind work and gives them a sense of understanding:  this is appreciation.

My technique includes pen and ink fine detail, watercolour wash, acrylics and mixed colour pencils, sometimes perhaps all in one picture. I find I can get greater depth in variation tones of colours, so varied that the undertones show through and this gives many colour changes.

Most of my works are easy on the eye with perspective views and dramatic honesty, which I true and recognisable. I have become fascinated with life in the broadest sense and endeavour to document that my in works.

Artist

Peter Thawley - exhilarating art for thoughtful workspace.

I am painter who trained and initially exhibited in London and the Midlands. I learnt my portraiture and fine line techniques from two distinguished Royal Academicians and their encouragement has led to frequent commissions.

Although a wonderful traditional artist, my passion is now for fine contemporary work: precise, dramatic and highly distinctive. I work out of Castle Studio on the Bridgwater Road, near Bristol and on the edge of Somerset. I produce bespoke artwork for exhibition in any corporation or commercial environment.

It's difficult to explain a passion, but my work definitely comes from 'within', from the inspiration of a mood or particular moment I am experiencing. I have to sketch such thoughts immediately; that way the composition becomes easy and inspires me to work all hours, giving a wonderfully fulfilling sense of satisfaction and freedom

My multi-media style has tremendous breadth. A single picture can include pen and ink fine detail, watercolour wash, acrylics, chalks and mixed coloured pencils. My contemporary paintings can give an exhilarating new dimension to the day-to-day feel of any workplace. Beyond simply banishing bare walls, the earlier my involvement begins, the more profound and effective his influence. Discussions with developers, architects and interior designers all contribute to the preliminary drawings I submit to ensure each client's satisfaction.

Most of my works are easy on the eye, with perspective views and a dramatic honesty which is true and distinctive. I've become fascinated with 'life' in its broadest sense and try to document it precisely in my paintings
